“In simple terms, Photosynth allows you to take a bunch of photos of the same scene or object and automagically stitch them all together into one big interactive 3D viewing experience that you can share with anyone on the web.”
Source Microsoft’s Photosynth site

Photography is a great way share the world around you. Everyone likes to share pictures of sunsets and landscapes, special occasions, or even that new computer setup.
But a photograph can only show so much. It never matches the experience of being there.
A new Microsoft technology called Photosynth is changing that. Making a synth starts by taking a lot of photos (up to 300). They must be of a single area, from many angles and overlapping. Think of taking hundreds of photos of just your new computer setup. Then all the photos are uploaded to the Photosynth Website where it recreates an accurate 3D environment from those photos by weaving all the photos together in the correct position. Through the photos, you can see the environment from any angle.
It’s an amazing use of photography. You have to check this out.
